For 75 years, PCPA has helped Christian publishers navigate a distinct responsibility: building sustainable organizations while creating resources that nurture faith, strengthen communities, and serve the church.
Founded in 1951 as the Protestant Church-owned Publishers Association, PCPA has grown beyond its Protestant roots to include ecumenical, Catholic, university press, and other nonprofit Christian publishers across several countries. Its members differ in theology, size, and geography, but share a commitment to meaningful publishing.
PCPA gives those organizations a place to learn from one another.
When a publishing company joins, its full- and part-time staff become members. Through professional education, peer relationships, industry resources, and connections with suppliers and specialists, PCPA helps publishing teams address challenges they may not be able to solve alone.
That role is increasingly important as the industry responds to changing reading habits, digital formats, intellectual property concerns, and artificial intelligence.
PCPA encourages thoughtful experimentation with AI, viewing it as a tool that may improve workflows and expand access. At the same time, it believes innovation must remain accountable to human creativity, intellectual property, environmental stewardship, and the common good.
For PCPA, Christian publishing is not simply about producing more content. Its members create books, curricula, devotionals, music, and other resources intended to deepen faith and help people live more faithfully in the world.
In an industry being reshaped by new technology, PCPA helps publishers move forward without losing sight of why their work matters.
Technology may extend the reach of a message.
But people remain responsible for ensuring that message brings hope, wisdom, and life.
